Japan, Country of Honour at the Grand Pavois La Rochelle 2026
An exceptional invitation celebrating Japanese maritime culture
An archipelago of more than 6,800 islands surrounded by the Pacific Ocean, Japan has maintained a deep and respectful relationship with the sea for centuries. A source of life, exchange and inspiration, the sea has shaped the country’s identity, craftsmanship and world-renowned technological expertise.
Being the Country of Honour at the Grand Pavois La Rochelle offers visitors a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the Japanese maritime way of life: cultural activities, demonstrations, exhibitions, gastronomy, and encounters highlighting Japanese know-how that blends traditional craftsmanship and contemporary innovation.
A pavilion dedicated to the sea and modernity
The Japanese Pavilion will be a true 600 m² cultural and economic village, coordinated by Yvonne Chu-Kit (YCK Culture & Events) in collaboration with Japanese and local partners.
Visitors will discover:
-
Stands showcasing traditional craftsmanship,
-
A gastronomic area featuring a restaurant and Japanese specialties,
-
Cultural and artistic activities,
-
A special focus on maritime tourism and Japan’s coastal regions.
As Yvonne Chu-Kit explains: “This will be a first for the Japanese archipelago, a major nation in the world of boating, as it has never before been among the Countries of Honour at the Grand Pavois La Rochelle. We will present a true Japanese Village, a symbol of openness and shared maritime passion.”
Japan, a key player in global boating
Japan is recognised as one of the leading nations in international boating, standing at the crossroads of marine electronics, robotics, technological innovation and sport fishing.
Its invitation reflects the Grand Pavois La Rochelle’s commitment to celebrating the diversity of maritime cultures and to building bridges between East and West, tradition and modernity.
A tribute to innovation and the spirit of the sea
According to Alain Pochon, President of Grand Pavois Organisation: “It is both an honour and a great pleasure to welcome Japan as the Country of Honour in 2026. This nation embodies both tradition and modernity, aesthetics and precision, as well as outstanding expertise in boating and marine technology. Japan conveys a powerful image — that of a futuristic and spiritual country where the sea remains a vital link between innovation and culture. It will undoubtedly be a major highlight of the Grand Pavois La Rochelle 2026.”
A must-see event
Through this exceptional presence, the Grand Pavois La Rochelle 2026 will invite visitors to discover maritime Japan, blending innovation, respect for nature and a deep passion for navigation.
Save the dates: 22 to 27 September 2026 — an unmissable event of exchange, inspiration and openness to the world.
